At UnicornForms, we are not just building forms or yet another eSign app; we are building a new foundation for how business operates. The simple truth is documents, contracts and agreements for any organization represent all of its value. No one gets hired. Customers don't pay. Shares don't get issued. Startups don't get founded. Goods don't get sold. Students don't get enrolled. Patients don't see doctors. Homes don't get sold. And so on and so forth dating as far as Ancient Mesopotamia, where the oldest form of writing discovered was not poetry but a 5,000 year old receipt.

There's More than Contracts & Agreements

We say this all the time. We are not competing with the big eSign players. They've got a great market for contracts & agreements. But there's more to life than sending NDAs. Documents that require a high degree of data, such as registrations, applications, inspections, audits, government forms, etc.,  require more than eSign. They require volume support, PII/PHI handling, autofilling, workflow management, automations and integrations. In the Contracts & Agreements space, the work is focused on drafting, collaboration and negotiation. Once the deal is signed, the job is done. Our customers need to sign documents as part of a process that requires review and approval. The signature is still legally binding, but is more an attestation that the data is correct. The work begins after the documents are filled and signed, not before. Our use cases couldn't be more different than the typical Contracts & Agreements space.

Data Engineering > Artificial Intelligence

We are on a mission to remove bureaucracy as a barrier and to make paperwork frictionless through better data engineering and user experiences. Call us crazy. Call us contrarians. Data is the key to digital transformation.

Yet, the start is often a form or a document that needs to be signed. If this data is locked in a PDF, it is prohibitively expensive to extract. Can it be done? Sure, but it's not scalable and not reliable. Through our unique approach, data is tagged and labeled at document creation. This allows for an incredible array of tools, such as analytics, business intelligence and workflow management, that are scalable and cost effective. It means that whatever you wish to feed to AIML after document creation will be clean data. OCR or Natural Language Processing is no longer required. Imagine that?

A Data Ecosystem of the 21st Century

According to IBM, corporations waste $3.1 trillion annually on bad data processes. Redundancies in forms and documents account for a third of it. In the last two decades of digital transformation, we have seen a flood of SaaS products transforming how we run our businesses. However, PDF is unchanged and based on unironically named RIP technologies - not Rest in Peace, but Raster Image Processing - such as PostScript. Billions of dollars are wasted on Intelligent Document Processing tools because the core file format of all of our documents is not text or structured like HTML or Markdown or XML or JSON. It's a vector format.

As an archive format, PDF is unparalleled, but we must go back to first principles of Human Computer Interaction. People need documents with layout and formatting to read. Machines need JSON. This is where the other products fail. They provide one or the other, but not both.

Our Core Principles

  1. Volume. The Ideal Customer Profile for most eSign solutions is a sales agent, realtor or lawyer who sends 5-10 contracts a month. This is great for contracts and agreements, but a school who needs to sign 10,000 documents just in August or a doctor's office who signs 100 documents a day does not use the big eSign players because it's prohibitively costly.
  2. Data. Data is the lifeblood of our documents. Often we are dealing with forms that collect PII/PHI or other sensitive information and live in a 8.5"x11" world. We can autofill any document or web-based form, which can improve throughput by 95%. It's incredible.
  3. Workflow. Once data is managed, it can be reused and streamline within your organizations process and become a live source of Business Intelligence and Analytics, rather than a cog in a bureacratic machine.
  4. Mobile Friendly. Today many people fill and sign forms on their phone. Mobile friendliness is key to properly solving the problem for end users.
  5. White Labeling. We believe the source of trust from the frontend through the signing certificate is YOU. You have the relationship with your customer. Why outsource that trust to someone else?
